Submersible Level Transmitter Installation and Wiring Guide

2025-03-26

How to install a submersible level transmitter

A submersible level transmitter is installed by lowering the stainless-steel probe directly into the measured liquid. The sensor measures hydrostatic pressure and converts it into a level signal such as 4-20mA or RS485. Before installation, confirm the measuring range, liquid depth, cable length, output signal and connection method.

Installation position

The probe should be installed in a position where the liquid level is representative and where the sensor will not be damaged by pumps, agitators, sediment, floating objects or strong water impact. In tanks and wells, the probe should hang naturally without being pulled tightly. In reservoirs or outdoor water points, cable protection and fixing method are important for long-term stability.

Wiring and output signal

Common output options include 4-20mA and RS485 Modbus RTU. For 4-20mA level transmitters, connect the power and signal wires according to the wiring definition. For RS485 models, confirm A/B wiring, device address, baud rate and register map. Incorrect wiring or unstable power supply can cause no signal, wrong reading or intermittent data.

Measuring range and cable length

The measuring range should match the maximum liquid depth. A range that is too large may reduce resolution, while a range that is too small may exceed the sensor limit. Cable length should be selected according to the installation depth and distance to the control cabinet. YexSensor can customize cable length and output configuration according to project requirements.

Commissioning checklist

Before commissioning, check probe appearance, cable integrity, wiring, power supply, signal output, measuring range and installation depth. If the reading is incorrect, compare the actual water depth with the output value and confirm whether the sensor range and controller scaling are set correctly.

Typical applications

Submersible level transmitters are suitable for water tanks, wells, reservoirs, rivers, wastewater pits, lift stations, irrigation systems and industrial liquid storage tanks. For project examples, see Submersible Level Transmitters Shipped to Spain for Multi-Point Water Level Monitoring.
