What is a submersible level transmitter?
A submersible level transmitter is a liquid level sensor designed to be lowered directly into water or another compatible liquid. It measures hydrostatic pressure, which increases with liquid depth, and converts that pressure into a standard output signal such as 4-20mA or RS485. Submersible level transmitters are widely used in tanks, wells, reservoirs, rivers, wastewater pits, lift stations and irrigation systems. They are suitable when the sensor needs to operate below the liquid surface for continuous level measurement.
How does a hydrostatic level sensor measure water level?
A hydrostatic level sensor measures the pressure generated by the liquid column above the probe. The deeper the probe is installed, the higher the pressure. The transmitter converts this pressure into a level signal according to the measuring range and liquid density. In most water level applications, this method is stable and easy to install. The sensor cable is routed from the probe to the control cabinet, PLC, data logger or IoT gateway where the level value is displayed or transmitted.
What output signals are available for submersible level transmitters?
Common output options include 4-20mA and RS485 Modbus RTU. A 4-20mA output is widely used in industrial control systems and is easy to connect to PLC analog input modules. RS485 Modbus RTU is useful when digital communication is required or when multiple devices need to connect to a data acquisition system. The output signal should be selected according to the customer's controller, monitoring platform and wiring method.
Can cable length and measuring range be customized?
Yes, cable length and measuring range can be selected according to the project site. For deep wells or reservoirs, longer cable length and a larger measuring range may be required. For small tanks, a shorter range provides better resolution. Before ordering, customers should confirm the maximum liquid depth, installation method, distance to the control cabinet and required output signal. Customizing these details helps reduce on-site wiring work and improves measurement reliability.
Where are submersible level transmitters commonly used?
Submersible level transmitters are commonly used in water tanks, wells, boreholes, reservoirs, rivers, wastewater pits, lift stations, irrigation systems and industrial liquid storage tanks. They are especially useful for multi-point water level monitoring projects where continuous measurement is required. For outdoor or humid environments, waterproof cable quality, probe material and cable protection should be considered carefully. YexSensor can recommend the configuration based on the liquid type and installation depth.
