YEX-S2-CU Online Copper Ion Sensor Product Overview
In the electronics electroplating, mine acidic water discharge, and non-ferrous metal smelting industries, real-time monitoring of copper ion (Cu²⁺) concentration is not only an environmental compliance requirement but also key to optimizing production processes. The YEX-S2-CU online copper ion sensor launched by Yexsensor successfully transforms laboratory-grade ion selective analysis capability into a robust industrial on-site online solution.
Unlike traditional photometric analyzers, the Yexsensor solution requires no expensive chemical reagents, produces no secondary pollution, and has extremely low maintenance costs. Its split design combines precision crystal membrane technology with an intelligent digital processing unit, enabling real-time monitoring of subtle changes in copper ion concentration in water and providing accurate and reliable data support for enterprise wastewater reduction and process recovery.
YEX-S2-CU Online Copper Ion Sensor Core Technical Advantages
1. High Precision and Long Life Brought by Crystal Membrane Technology
The core of the YEX-S2-CU sensor adopts a crystal membrane ion selective electrode. Compared with ordinary PVC membrane electrodes, crystal membranes offer stronger mechanical strength and chemical corrosion resistance. Especially in industrial wastewater containing complex complexing agents or fluctuating pH, it maintains more stable potential output. The minimum detection limit can reach 0.01 mg/L, ensuring high sensitivity of monitoring.
2. Patented Reference Technology: Reject “Poisoning” and Drift
The most common failure in online ion monitoring is reference electrode contamination (“poisoning”). Yexsensor’s patented reference system applies at least 100KPa pressure internally, allowing the reference solution to seep out at an extremely slow and constant rate from the micro-porous salt bridge. This positive pressure design effectively resists reverse permeation of external high-concentration ions, fundamentally solving data drift problems.
3. Environmental Adaptability and Automatic Temperature Compensation
Copper ion activity changes significantly with temperature. The YEX-S2-CU has a built-in high-performance Pt1000 temperature sensor, combined with Yexsensor’s digital algorithm, to compensate for the impact of ambient temperature differences on measurement results in real time. The sensor housing is available in POM+ABS or POM+316L stainless steel, with IP68 protection rating, supporting long-term stable operation in deep water or high-pressure pipelines.
4. Easy Integration and Extremely Low Power Consumption
The sensor outputs standardized RS-485 (Modbus RTU) signals that can be directly connected to PLC, DCS or remote monitoring terminals. The whole unit consumes only 0.2W, making it very suitable for solar-powered or power-constrained field projects.

Wiring & Installation Instructions
Installation Key Points
Installation Angle: The sensor must not be installed upside down or horizontally. To ensure internal liquid pressure balance, it must maintain a tilt angle of at least 15 degrees relative to the horizontal plane.
Fixing Method: Fixed with 3/4NPT pipe thread. When installed in flowing water, it is recommended that the front end faces the water flow direction and avoid installation in dead zones.
Electrical Connection
The sensor comes standard with a 5-core twisted shielded cable with the following wiring:
Red: Power Positive (12~24V DC)
Black: Power Ground (GND)
Blue: 485A
Green: 485B
Yellow: 4-20mA Current Output (optional; insulate if not used)
Note: All wiring must be waterproofed. Professional waterproof junction boxes are recommended.
FAQ
Q1: Must the Yexsensor copper ion sensor be activated before use?
Yes. New electrodes or electrodes stored dry for a long time must be activated by soaking in tap water for 24 hours before use to bring the crystal membrane surface to response equilibrium.
Q2: What is the purpose of the protective bottle at the front of the electrode?
The protective bottle prevents damage to the sensing element during storage and transportation. It must be removed before operation, and the electrode front should be soaked in distilled water for 10 minutes to enter working condition.
Q3: Can this sensor be used in high-salinity wastewater?
The crystal membrane has good selectivity for copper ions, but extremely high concentrations of reducing substances (such as sulfides) or strong complexing agents (such as EDTA) in wastewater may affect measurement. Please inform the Yexsensor technical team of your water sample composition before ordering.
Q4: Why can’t the crystal membrane at the front of the electrode be wiped directly?
The crystal membrane surface is very delicate. Wiping may cause scratches or static charge accumulation. Clean by rinsing with distilled water, then blot dry with soft tissue. Never wipe forcefully.
Q5: Which is better — digital (RS-485) or analog (4-20mA)?
For modern industrial monitoring, we recommend RS-485 (Modbus RTU) first. It has strong anti-interference capability and can return both copper ion value and temperature simultaneously. 4-20mA is more suitable for connecting to older secondary instruments.
Q6: What is the general recommended calibration frequency?
It is usually recommended to perform a calibration check once a month. If abnormal readings are found on site, clean the electrode first and then perform two-point (zero and slope) calibration.
Q7: What are the signs of electrode failure?
When electrode response becomes extremely slow (no change for more than 5 minutes), calibration slope is far below normal, or the crystal membrane surface shows obvious translucency or irremovable deposits, it usually means the electrode has reached the end of its life.
Q8: What is the maximum underwater pressure for the sensor?
The YEX-S2-CU is designed to support 0.1 MPa (approximately 10 meters water depth). For deeper or higher pressure pipeline installations, please contact Yexsensor for customized reinforced version recommendations.
